Scotland's Census 2021 - Topic Consultation

Closed 15 Jan 2016

Opened 8 Oct 2015

Results Updated 20 Sep 2016

We have now published the Scotland's Census 2021 Topic Consultation Report.  This report presents our response to the consultation, updating our initial view on the topics under consideration for the next census.

It provides an overview of the evaluation process we used to assess the responses and summarises the results of the evaluation. It sets out the updated NRS view on the topics to be included in the 2021 Census, including an overview of our plans and intended next steps. We will now work with users and undertake research and small-scale question testing to further inform our decision making. This work will conclude by mid-2018, to allow us to prepare for the census rehearsal in spring 2019.

Overview

National Records of Scotland is already planning the 2021 Census in Scotland and we need your help. To inform our planning, we have launched this public consultation which is open to everyone. We want to know which topics the census should cover.

A lot changes in the 10 years between each census. Our society is constantly evolving and the information our users want from the census also may change. This is why your feedback is so important. You can submit responses until 15 January 2016.
